Girls Rescue Centers in Kenya

The Amphibian Foundation (formerly Regrow) has supported a few rescue centers for girls in Northern Kenya at risk of sexual and gender-based violence. We have funded food, supplies, scholarships, clean water, solar power, and more through raising and catalyzing over $150,000 of donations from dozens of donors!

In alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #5, we have worked on critical issues that promote gender equality and the empowerment of all girls. Since Amphibian’s mission is to connect humanity back to nature, we have focused our work on helping centers in areas of high biodiversity.

"Your consistent support plays a crucial role in ensuring the girls at the ‘One More Day for Children’ safe house are well-nourished and cared for. Thanks to your generosity, we are able to continue providing a safe and supportive environment for the girls, helping them to heal and grow."

Why We Got Involved

How volunteering at an elephant orphanage in Kenya started a mission to care for hundreds of at-risk girls.

While volunteering with wildlife conservation projects in remote areas of Northern Kenya in 2019, our founder, Evan Rapoport, learned about a small, volunteer-led center in Wamba that rescues girls from sexual and gender-based violence. He was moved by the kindness of the women who raised the girls, cared for their health, fed them, and made sure they got an education.

Seeing how little funding was required to care for the dozens of girls, Evan made a few personal donations. In 2020, he founded Regrow (now the Amphibian Foundation) as a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to receive donations from others. During a subsequent visit to Kenya, he learned about other rescue centers, so the organization continued to expand its efforts.

As a very small, volunteer-run, US-based organization, we cannot manage on-the-ground projects in Kenya. So, for all of these projects, we have worked closely with our trusted partners and friends in Kenya (who we know personally). Our overall lead in Kenya is Garry Cullen, who has worked with community leaders across Africa for decades to help them implement sustainable, economically-viable eco-tourism operations.

For all the work we fund, we ensure that it is done properly, cost-effectively, and without any corruption.
